MESP and GIZ – Project for returning plastic bottles, glass bottles and cans

Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Fatmir Matoshi together with Secretary Arben Çitaku and political advisors met with First Secretary of the German Embassy in Kosovo, Anja Becky, Project Leader Alexandra Linden and other representatives of German GIZ.

During this meeting the project of creating a deposit return system was presented, a project that will be implemented by MESP with the support of GIZ.

On this occasion, Minister Matoshi has offered the support for the realization of this project which will contribute towards a clean environment.

"The project of creating a deposit return system will start this year, with the support of GIZ and we also seek the support of everyone in order to make Kosovo clean and to prove that we love our state which was built with many sacrifices, "said Minister Matoshi.

The first of MESP, Matoshi, said that this project will include, the return of plastic bottles, glass and cans.

"Plastic bottles, glass bottles and cans will soon be included in a return system, in order to protect the environment and recycle waste in the country," Matoshi said.

Matoshi said that the pollution of environment by plastic is one of the environmental problems Kosovo faces.

Minister Matoshi thanked the German Government and GIZ for their continued cooperation in the field of environment.

Representatives of the German Embassy and GIZ have provided support to MESP in the implementation of projects that are foreseen for the environment.

In implementing this system Kosovo will rely on the Estonia and Lithuania model as countries that have this advanced deposit systems and are recognized as ecological states.
